Some Asians, including mixed race Asian American, college applicants are choosing to not check Asian on the race box because they believe it will make it harder for them to gain admission into the top colleges due to studies that show Asian Americans college applicants need higher test scores than applicants from other ethnic groups to get a chance of college admission.
